Gold has destroyed this game. But the world has no free lunch. Without gold will surely without this game. We have to accept it before starting. I admitted it is very difficult for a non-gold player to compete with those golden warriors.

Well sorry to see you go... I'm also someone who doesn't use gold and it isn't fair at all. The game used to be that you could only get a travian plus account and that gave plus accounts a edge on everything. But with gold 25% resources and instant building I watch all the gold member pass me right by. In the beginning travian (the first week) gold wasn't much of an effect and I was ranked 14 and now that gold is more and more useful I'm ranked 40 Its really annoying and I wish they would go back to the old ways. I guess travian will ruin the game for extra money...

I've played with and without gold. Without, one must work a lot harder to compete.

The problem is less the 'instant building' than resource re-balancing, which allows cheats to push crop from multiple accounts and then convert it. This is how some grow super-fast and make huge armies at the same time.

Gold also corrupts the administration of Travian, which will favour heavy gold users, even knowing that they cheat.

I understand why the admins/owners of travian need the gold in the game, servers are expensive to buy/maintain plus they want to make money. I can't fault them for that. I would guess that they would make a fraction of the money on a pure donation platform and ads just don't bring in much in the way of revenue, and the people paying should have an advantage. The one with the most money has always had the advantage in war. Having said that, to keep the game fun, cheating should never be overlooked, no matter if GmbH is a for profit company. It just ruins a game and that hurts them and us.

Regarding gold, I understand the edge it gives. I am a gold user. Now I cant speak for anyone's RL money situation, however, when you look at the cost of 600 gold (which will last a while if used right), it is cheaper than if someone was playing an online MMO like EQ, WoW, Daoc, etc....plus with those games you have to buy the game. $50 for the game, $15 for just one month = almost 1800 trav gold. Since I dont play per month online games, thats the way I look at it.

i had my precious 35 gold!

The gold changed the game and the bad players became good players, with a little bit of NPC and some instants anyone can grow fast and keep huge armies, of course a good player with gold is even better but a lot of good guys quited because of this
I had a ww on a gold server and i know that this helped me a lot to finish and keep huge defence but i played also without gold and the feeling is better, harder but better.
